WHY?

Last year we were lucky enough to work with Fiction Factory to post-produce the TV drama series ‘Y Pris’, which was shot in HD for SD delivery. This was our first venture into TV drama, and we enjoyed it immensely! The result was also very well received indeed (it received 5 BAFTA nominations). Fiction Factory were keen to produce a ‘film look’ for the series, so we put the whole show through a ‘film workflow’ – but at HD - utilising our critical grading theatre. We were also able to supply the VFX for the project at HD, including green-screen composits, shot extensions and various paint and rotoscope treatments. Everything, even the painting, was conducted at HD and the result speaks for itself. At no point did the material drop below HD resolution.

Crucially however, it didn’t cost Fiction Factory the Earth to do this. Because the team here has been working with HD for more than ten years, and our daily job is exercised at resolutions much higher than this, we are very comfortable with HD. We understand it intimately in all its flavours and its formats and its frame-rates and its refresh-rates. To us it’s old hat. We haven’t had to gear up for it like everyone else. In fact we gear down for it! So rest assured, you’re with the experts.
