Dragon DI is one of the most advanced Digital Intermediate and Post Production facilities in the world - technically advanced with both equipment and expertise.
Calibration throughout the facility is tightly controlled from the very beginning to the very end of the process. Calibration begins right at the scanning stage where we make exact base density measurements for every original camera negative (OCN) we scan, insuring that the raw data captured during the scan will contain the full density range possible along with the correct colorimetric values.
Display device calibration is crucial within the DI and post production workflow and to insure display calibrations are kept within industry standard tolerances, we have a range of high end colour analyzers and measurement equipment. With these tools and the accompanying expertise, values such as luminance, chromaticity and correlated colour are tightly controlled and monitored, maintaining constant calibration at all times.
Finally, at the end of the pipe-line, our Arri film recorder is calibrated fully, not only for the laboratory of your choice but also for every stock and emulsion number used throughout the intermediate process. This again insures that all digital code values within the final Digital Intermediate data are translated and recorded to the right densities on the intermediate negative. Again, this insures a perfect match to the digital grade when the final prints are created from the DI master negative.
This is why we mount a 35mm cineprojector alongside our 2K digital projector, to display the final answer print split-screened with the digital grade. This is the ultimate sign off!
We are only able to do this with confidence thanks to the painstaking and never-ending calibration processes we consistently put ourselves through.
