The Guardian has called Alabama 3 “the best live act in the country”; The Independent thinks they have “some of the most infectious, well-routed grooves you'll hear all year” and Irving Welsh (Trainspotting) sites them as the “first band I could ever dance to in the daytime hours without chemical assistance…” Their track, Woke Up This Morning was the theme tune for the spectacularly popular US drama series, The Sopranos, and now their lead singer has written and recorded the BAFTA winning title track for S4C’s big new television drama – Y Pris.
Y Pris - “The Sopranos by the seaside” – is the Carmarthenshire drama which follows the tangled lives of a group of West-Walian gangsters. The drama centres on Lyn Edwards, who has responsibility thrust upon his shoulders when his father is taken ill. Lyn tries to juggle, a new girlfriend, family crises, a drug empire under threat, and the politics of the brotherhood - the ancient mafia organisation that runs everything in West Wales.
A Mafia story with a twist, this groundbreaking drama for S4/C is must-watch television.
And for all Alabama 3 fans series includes a cameo performance from the great lead singer and composer, Rob Love aka Larry Love aka Rob Spragg … aka the Very Rev Rob Love in Y Pris.
John Hardy and Rob Love were awarded the BAFTA Cymru for Best Original Music Soundtrack for Y Pris (April 2008).
