Dragon DI are delighted to announce that they will be carrying out a full DI process for Richard Ayoade's directorial debut film, Submarine. The film which has just finished shooting in Cardiff, follows fifteen year old Oliver Tate - who has prepared the following statement for the press, which we give you now in unedited form:
"I have been waiting too long for the film of my life. My name is Oliver Tate. This film will capture my particular idiosyncrasies, for example, the way I seduce my classmate Jordana Bevan using only my mind. Also, since my parents' marriage is being threatened by a man who runs courses on Mental and Physical Wellbeing, the film will probably feature some elaborate set-pieces of me taking him down. There will be helicopter shots. There will be slow-mo, but also transcendent moments, like when I cure my father's depression. Knowing me as I do, I will be surprised if this film runs to less than three hours. Note to the press: appropriate adjectives to describe this film include 'breath-taking' and 'irresistible' as well the phrase: 'a monumental achievement'."
As well as introducing the world to Oliver, the indie coming-of-age comedy Submarine marks the feature film directorial debut of Richard Ayoade. Familiar to Graham Linehan's legion enthusiasts as the maladroit Moss from The IT Crowd, Ayoade's acting credits to date also include The Mighty Boosh and Nathan Barley, while he also appeared in, wrote and directed rightful objects of cult veneration Man To Man With Dean Learner and Garth Marenghi's Dark Place.
Ayoade has taken on writing duties for Submarine, adapting a novel lauded by The Independent amongst others as "the sharpest, funniest, rudest account of a periodically troubled male teenager's coming-of-age since 'The Catcher In The Rye'."
The cast is equally strong: Sally Hawkins (Happy Go Lucky), Noah Taylor (The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou) and Paddy Considine (Dead Man's Shoes), join newcomer Craig Roberts, who plays the key role of 15 year old Oliver Tate, a hero in the gauche vein of an Adrian Mole or young Alan Partridge.
Submarine is scheduled for release in 2010.
